Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture examines the role of translation for processes of knowledge and cultural transfer in history and present. Various theoretical and methodological approaches to study the functions of translation at selected nodes of transfers are presented.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students get insight into the various functions translation can fulfill in various conditions. This historical constellations, networks, actors play a role, as the interaction of translation, multilingualism and diverse Linguae francae over time.
Examination topics
Independent development and research of a translational case study, assignment of this case study to a thematic focus of the lecture and oral presentation of the essential elements of this focus and case study in the context of an oral group examination (3 students).
