Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The focus of this seminar is on literary translation in the context of translation studies and transcultural communication. We will look at the complex dynamics of the production and reception of translated literary texts and the German-language book market from a combined theoretical and practical perspective.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral presentation; research paper; active participation in discussions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will learn how to apply theoretical approaches developed within translation studies to practical problems and issues in literary translation and write a short research paper.

Examination topics

Students (teams of two) will present a research paper in class. They are expected to revise their paper before handing it in at the end of the term, working in any new material or perspectives that come up in discussions.
