Aims, contents and method of the course
The aim of this session is to outline the advantage of a well structured training process, and, as such, will take on a practical approach of periodization based on a broad theoretical background.Main topics are:Principles of adaptation in sport and exercise scienceFrom novice to elite: multiple stages of trainingDynamic of training-variablesPractical approach for successful periodizationPerformance assessment and monitoring of trainingApplicability of training diaries

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
As a result of attending this course students should have knowledge in:Physiological adaptations in response to physical activityProperly application of physical activity to recreational or elite athletesSetting realistic and challenging goals for athletesImplication of performance assessment into the training processAnalysis of data relevant for monitoring the training process
Examination topics
To provide the theoretical background of periodization. There will be an emphasis of the strong relationship between exercise physiology and applied exercise science. Across the several applications of training the cross-linking within this course will set a framework for future work.
