Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will:

Possess basic knowledge of the theory and practice of the motorically conditional primary form of speed and its manifestations.
Have a basic understanding of the essential content, methods, and principles of speed training.
Be able to select methods of speed training differentiated by age, gender, training status, disciplines, and even in a limited form of sports, and apply appropriate loads.
Be capable of conducting individual practice sessions aimed at adequate development of motor speed capability.
Understand the promotion of health and injury prevention in the design of exercise and training processes in the field of speed training.
Contents:

Establishing prerequisites for speed training:
Sensomotoric training (balance, stability)
Symmetrical / asymmetrical trunk stabilization
Muscle loop training (extensor loop)
Flexibility training
Reflexive muscle activation using the example of running technique (classic / adapted) using the stretch-shortening cycle
Reflexive muscle activation using the example of jumping technique using the stretch-shortening cycle
Opportunities for developing cyclic speed
Opportunities for developing acyclic speed (plyometric training)
Reaction training (simple, complex reaction)
Training of action speed using the example of sports games
Testing possibilities for cyclic / acyclic speed
Methods:

Practical presentation and implementation of speed training methods in the training process.
Reflection through self and peer feedback during and after practical implementation.
Literature research or self-study of selected literature to establish theoretical foundations.
Development of a collection of exercises related to topics covered in the course

Assessment and permitted materials

The course has an exam-relevant character.

Requirements for course participation:

Work attitude (frequency, punctuality, participation, engagement)
Attendance: minimum 75%
Teaching presentation on the topic of speed in a given sport
Literature review including a collection of exercises related to the teaching presentation topic
Written exam
Practical performance in the 60m sprint and Olympic snatch (hang snatch)
All student performance in exam-relevant courses of the winter semester must be completed by April 30 of the following year, and for exam-relevant courses of the summer semester by September 30 of the same year. Students who have not deregistered from the respective course must be assessed. In case of a negative evaluation, a committee exam is not permissible, and the course must be repeated. Legal basis: Statute of the University of Vienna §10 (4, 5, 6).

You are explicitly informed that if fraudulent behavior is detected (e.g., cheating, plagiarism, unauthorized use of aids, forgery, ghostwriting, etc.), the entire exam-relevant course will be considered fraudulent and will count as an attempt (Entry in U:SPACE: X = not evaluated).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Practical Performance:

60m Sprint
Women: Limit 9.6 seconds / 1-second limit: 8.6 seconds
Men: Limit 8.3 seconds / 1-second limit: 7.3 seconds

(Hang) Snatch:
Women: Limit 25kg / 1-second limit: 40kg (For body weight under 50kg, reduce by 5kg)
Men: Limit 45kg / 1-second limit: 65kg (For body weight under 70kg, reduce by 5kg)
