Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will be informed about:

- the phenomenon of ageing in our modern society

- important scientific bases regarding health promotion through physical activity and sport for older people

- the influence and possibility of physical activity and sport in the context of healthy ageing

Furthermore students will prepare, present and discuss various PA and sport programmes for elderly.

Assessment and permitted materials

- compulsory attendance

- active participation

- preparation and instruction of some teaching practice according to sport- and course-specific criteria

- transcription of the teaching practice according to course-specific criteria

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of the course is that students:

- have fundamental information on images, stereotypes and theories of ageing;

- enhance their knowledge about biological and physiological aspects of ageing

- are aware of the disabilities in the context of ageing and know about the effects and benefits of regular physical activity and sport for elderly;

- have basic information on psychological and sociocultural aspects of physical activity and sport for older adults;

- gain new skills regarding the planning and implementation of an appropriate physical activity (PA) or sport programme for older people which meets their needs and demands;

- are aware of the Do's and Dont's dealing with elderly and are familiar with a risk management plan;

- gain a great deal of experience regarding various physical activity and sport programmes and are able to reflect them critically.

Examination topics

- individual and group work regarding age-related issues

- preparation, instruction and reflection of PA and sport programmes for older adults
