Dear students, due to the current COVID-situation and the limited number of persons allowed in lecture rooms, this seminar will at least partly be held via online video conferences.

75% attendance in the scheduled sittings is obligatory as usual (either on site or via video conference), all links and materials will be provided on Moodle after the registration phase.
In any case, we will have interactive sessions with a good mixture of theoretical input, practical applications and plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

You will need a laptop/computer with headset and camera as well as a stable internet connection. Info regarding software will be provided in the 1st session.

Aims, contents and method of the course

- Fundamentals of empirical social research and questionnaire design
- Getting to know quantitative survey and evaluation methods
- Basics of data analysis: descriptive statistics and inferential statistics
- Knowledge of problem-adequate selection of statistical methods
- Introduction to the statistics software SPSS

Methods:

- Practical exercises in SPSS
- home exercises + videos with solutions

Assessment and permitted materials

The overall grade (100%) consists of three partial performances:
- Active participation (20%)
- Homework (40%)
- Final test in SPSS (40%)

Students must reach a positive grade in each partial performance, in order to pass the course (50% pass mark).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- 75 % presence + active course participation
- timely and complete submission of homework
- Positive completion of the final exam
