Students have an overview of the development of movement cultures and sport from antiquity to modern industrial societies.

Students know exemplary connections between societal, political and economic developments regarding sport, body and movement cultural settings.

Students know basic sport-historical methods, scientific-theoretical approaches from the fields of cultural, social, contemporary and body history.

Movement/body education concepts in Ancient Greece.

- Movement/body education concepts in modern times.

- Philanthropinism, Rousseau, GutsMuths.

- The modern systems of movement culture:

- Historical British Sport

- German gymnastics

- Lingianism,

- Modern Olympic Games from 1894.

- Movement and sport systems in the Habsburg Monarchy .

- Sports organization and sports policy in the 1st and 2nd Republics.

- The sport-specific ideological parameters in Austrofascism.

- Sport and National Socialism.

- Modern Olympic Games until 1936

- Development of sports science in Austria from 1848 until today (in international comparison).

- to obtain an overview of the most important motion-cultural currents/trends in ( European) history

- To know that exercise and sport were closely linked with the respective social, political , economic, cultural , etc. factors in society and and still are.

Exam review: Dates for exam review will be announced after the respective exam date.
A multiple choice question counts for a maximum of one point. An open question counts for a maximum of 4 points.
