Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Upon completion of the lecutre, students should be able to administer first aid to patients until professional help such as emergency medical services arrive on the scene. This means:
- General first aid
- Life-saving immediate measures such as stopping bleeding, basic life support (resuscitation), stable side position, shock management
- Wound management and hygiene
- Acute care of sports injuries such as immobilization of fractures and initial treatment of ligament and muscle injuries
- Basics of internal medicine and typical clinical pictures such as stroke, heart attack or hypoglycemia

Assessment and permitted materials

Written examination in presence at the university.
Performance assessment is by single choice, multiple choice and open questions.
The exam is examined together with the natural science courses of STEOP2 and has a total exam duration of one hour. A total of 20 points can be achieved for the first aid.

You are expressly advised that if you are found to have cheated (e.g..: Copying, plagiarizing, use of unauthorized aids, forgery, ghostwriting, etc.) the entire PI-LV will be considered cheated and will count as a citation. (Entry in U:SPACE: X = not assessed).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

There is a written examination with single choice, multiple choice and open questions.

Single and multiple choice questions are scored with one point. Questions will only be scored as correct if all correct answer choices are checked.

Open questions are awarded 2 to 4 points, depending on the question. The answers are primarily about correctly naming, listing and, if necessary, sorting in the correct order. Partial points can be earned for open-ended questions.

The examination and thus the course is considered positively completed as soon as the student has achieved at least 60% of the points to be attained in the STEOP 2 exam. The examination performance is evaluated with a five-part grading scale: 1 (very good), 2 (good), 3 (satisfactory), 4 (sufficient), 5 (not sufficient).

Examination topics

The examination material is the teaching content of the lecture slides (PPT) as well as the taught content from the practical unit.

Reading list

The teaching content is based on the lectures. In addition, the current ERC Guidelines apply.
