Aims, contents and method of the course

By means of topical tasks taken from the field of sports, students design and plan projects in teams thereby dealing with
- the topic of conceptual design;
- the structure, implementation and evaluation of projects;
- the application of methods concerned with planning and controlling projects such as a
project charter and performance planning by means of a work breakdown structure;
scheduling (bar charts, milestone schedules, network diagrams), methods of resource
and cost planning, project controlling, types of project documentation, quality
management and IT-usage for projects

Assessment and permitted materials

Course with continuous assessment of students’ performance:
- presentation and handout input
- written examination about inputs
- submission of a draft including the planning of a project dealing with a specific task
from the field of sports

Assessment:
Draft incl. planning 50%, short contributions 50%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students taking this lecture
- have a thorough knowledge of the structure, implementation and evaluation of projects
- are well grounded in major aspects of project management (e.g. design of project
charters, communication during projects, claim management) but also of quality
management and controlling of projects
- command of specific topic- and method-related competence in the field of project
management
- are proficient in solving problems and acting appropriately in the domain of project
management

The students designed and planned a concrete project, they reflected on their experiences and established a connection between those practical experiences and the theoretical knowledge that they had acquired.

Examination topics

- audience-focussed lecture including exercises, multimedia-based learning aids and
phases of reflection and feedback
- based on main topics, case studies and the specific projects that the students will be
working on during the lecture; alternation between lecture and discussions expanded by
single and group work including an exchange of knowledge and experiences as well as
feedback from the lecturer
