Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar is directed at doctoral candidates which are writing their doctoral thesis in international law. Only candidates with a previously obtained confirmation of willingness to supervise from one of the professors of the department of international law and international relations may enrol in the seminar. Students will have the possibility to present their dissertation topics. In the following discussion, the doctoral projects will be dicussed and assessed. Doctoral students usualls enrol in this seminar in the second semester of their doctoral studies, after completing the preparatory lecture on methods for PhD students in international law in the first semester (VO380024). Assessment and permitted materials

Evaluation of the doctoral project and participation in the classroom discussions. Written Outlines (5.000-7.000 words) need to be handed in until 13 November 2023 (via Moodle). A plagiarism check will be carried out.

Oral presentation of the doctoral project (15 minutes) followed by a Q&A. The conclusion of an agreement to supervise the proposed thesis depends on the quality of the proposal and the presentation and the demonstrated capacity to carry out the proposed doctoral thesis.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The research proposal shall include the following elements:

1) Title page with topic and name
2) Proposal (5000-7000 words, with footnotes), including state-of-the-art, envisaged contribution to the literature, research questions and methods
3) Preliminary table of contents
4) Select Bibliography (around three pages)
