Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Compared to other interview forms, ethnographic interviews often rather take the form of friendly conversations. Moreover they are relatively unstructured and open in their devolution. With regards to content, ethnographic interviews concentrate upon an understanding of local sense making and the construction of meaning in everyday life. In this seminar we will discuss diverse forms of such interviews (open and informal, but also narrative and biographical approaches) and ways of interpreting them. Students have the opportunity to present their research and parts of their data as well as to bring in their specific interests. Therefore, readings and topics will be determined jointly at the beginning of the term.
