Aims, contents and method of the course

Multiscalar Analysis in Anthropology
This course will engage with the methodological challenges of doing empirical research in our current world by putting the concepts of site, space, place, scale, local, global under critical scrutiny. Critique of methodological nationalism as well as multi-sited ethnography will constitute a substantial part of the course. The aim of the course is to establish the foundations of a multi-scalar analysis beyond the idioms of levels and the macro-micro analysis. The course requires literacy in anthropological debates in methodology and a PhD thesis based in an empirical study (ethnographic fieldwork and/or a case study).
