Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar covers the normative and empirical foundations of democratic political competition. It will first contrast democracy as competition with other concepts of democracy. The seminar then covers the institutions and rules that structure democratic political competition and their consequences for democratic choice. The third part of the seminar is devoted to the competitive behavior of political actors. The seminar will be based on lecturing, the joint discussion of literature (to be read by the participants), and presentations of relevant research including those of the participants.
