Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
It is one of the essential methods of archaeological research to evaluate things in their time, space and context. Resulting from this are often interpretive models, such as exchange, trade, migration, cultural transfer or any other forms of transcultral interaction. This research has shown that there is rarely only one explanation or interpretation for the past phenomena observed and that the reality was probably more complex than what simple, positivist interpretations would suggest. In this interdisciplinary doctoral seminar we will consider a range of current theories and methods and discuss specific case studies from the archaeological literature relevant to the topic. Also, the participants will select aspects from their own doctoral theses and prepapre presentations about how their research contributes to the discussion of transculturality and the many different forms of cultural transfer.
