Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This PhD seminar accompanies key elements of an interdisciplinary research project by focusing on central texts and case examples on historical comparison across different socio-cultural settings of Europe and Asia in late medieval and early modern times.
The cases will be retrieved from the FWF/SFB special research realm "Visions of Community", to compare spiritual communities, urban contexts, as well as tribal and ethnic conglomerates across Central Europe, southwest Arabia, and central Tibet.
The respective interpretation of relevant case materials will be brought into dialogue with comparative methodologies and guiding research questions and epistemologies.
