Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The event serves as an open forum for the history of knowledge and science and is primarily designed for doctoral students in these and related fields. We aim to explore current trends in the field - e.g. renewed interest in activism and counter-knowledge, epistemic decolonization, a critical history of data and resources, new materialism, incorporation of natural-scientific concepts and findings, or the move from historical to political epistemology. The focus will be on the discussion of pre-circulated drafts from ongoing dissertation projects. These discussions will be framed by joint readings of recent publications and presentations by invited colleagues. Discussions will be in English, unless the discussed chapter is in German and the presenter prefers to discuss in German

Assessment and permitted materials

You can pass this class in two ways:
(1) The minimum requirements for passing the class are that the participants attend the class regularly, that the submitted dissertation chapter meets minimum requirements of length and technical quality, and that the participant has discussed the chapter in class. (2) The minimum requirements for successful completion are that the participant attends the course regularly, writes a summary of a classroom discussion and gives a short presentation, or submits an equivalent assignment as discussed with the instructors, which meet minimum requirements in terms of length and technical quality,. If all three criteria are met, a “Sehr Gut/1” is awarded. Otherwise, a lower grade is awarded or compensation may be required.
