Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This is an interactive seminar-type course for students embarking on, or already working on their 'Dissertation' (PhD thesis) in the area of English linguistics, broadly conceived.

Since it is the only course specifically for PhD students doing research in English linguistics, students working under the supervision of any staff members of the 'linguistics side' in the English Department are invited to attend.

The seminar will give participants the opportunity to discuss not only the progress of their own work but also issues arising from it of a more general theoretical or practical interest.

Participants will collaborate in the close and critical examination of ideas about language and language study. Giving and receiving feedback and support for thesis work is an important aspect of this course.
