Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Cultural Studies traditionally employs a wide notion of text that goes beyond the analysis of verbal texts. University education in the philologies usually highlights verbal texts and the tools needed to examine them. This class will have the visual at its centre and will aim at providing methodologies for description, analysis and interpretation of images. We will look at the basics of Visual Culture as a field of studies and explore visual methodologies and practices of looking at work. This class is meant to meet the needs of PhD students in the faculty who want to include visual material into cultural studies research projects.
