Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is open for all doctoral students. We will focus on epistemological and methodological issues that you have come across in your thesis work - or that you expect to encounter when working on your thesis. Depending on the participants' research areas, we may also choose particular theoretical perspectives. Methods: Discussion, group work, presentations, peer-reviews.

Assessment and permitted materials

• Presentation of assignment: 15 credits
• Oral and written feedbacks: 30 credits
• Written assignment: 40 credits (the announced submission date is binding)
• Participation in discussion and other tasks: 15 credits. Other participation will be counted positively into the final assessment.

60 credits and the submission of the written assignment are needed to pass the course.

1 (sehr gut) 100-90 credits
2 (gut) 89-81 credits
3 (befriedigend) 80-71 credits
4 (genügend) 70-60 credits
5 (nicht genügend) 59-0 credits

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

• Mandatory attendance. Students may miss class twice in a term (without valid excuse).• It is mandatory to upload the written assignments (concepts and peer-reviews).• Detailed feedback on at least two other concepts is mandatory.

Examination topics

Course material, including examples of published doctoral dissertations.

Reading list

The selection of literature will depend on the participants' research areas.
