Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture course showcases successful transitions from education and research in the academic environment to professional life outside academia. Alumni of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Vienna who now pursue careers outside academia team up with their former academic supervisors from experimental, theoretical or computational physics.
The faculty members will provide an introduction into the scientific background, the research questions and methods of the field and on recent developments in their research group. The alumni will give a short overview on their academic background, current professional role and their personal experience and perspective on their transition from basic science to a job outside academia. Together they will discuss the transfer of knowledge and skills obtained during the PhD studies.
This course is open to master and PhD students from all areas of physics (theoretical, computational or experimental). The language of communication is English.
