Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims at giving an overview of research done by students at the Faculty of Physics as well as offer a place to connect with students from other groups and refine your skills in writing scientific articles. After an introduction on the publication process in the first units, students will give weekly talks on scientific articles from their research field. Challenges they are facing in translating the scientific work into a publication and how to overcome them will be discussed. Occasionally, there will be visits to laboratories to get an insight into the practical work related to the publications discussed in the seminar.

This course is open to students from all areas of physics (theoretical, computational or experimental) and to both PhD and MSc students. All presentations will be done in English.

UPDATE 15 April 2020:
Switching from classroom to virtual activities some of the delivery methods have to be adapted:
The weekly talks on scientific articles and visits to the laboratories are cancelled.
Instead, participants are asked to provide essays which will be discussed together in a forum and/or live chat. Background reading and a list of potential topics -related to the writing and publishing process of scientific texts- is available on Moodle.
In addition to the discussion of scientific articles and the practical work behind, short writing exercises will be assigned every week which can be uploaded on Moodle and which will be discussed together in the following session.
