Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The topics of this lecture series fall within the scope of research on environmental processes (aquatic and terrestrial). This comprises environmental geochemistry, hydrogeology, transformation and the fate of organic and inorganic contaminants, nutrient uptake, element cycles and the behaviour, fate and detection of nanoparticles.
In the context of this lecture, invited researchers of international repute will present their current research interests and results. The talks will be held in English and are followed by a discussion session to encourage knowledge exchange with the invited lecturers.

Assessment and permitted materials

Preparation and submission of a recorded presentation on a current Publication in the area of Environmental Geochemistry. Each student has to choose a different publication. The presentations are upload to the MOODLE folder 'Student presentations: current topics in Env. Geosci.' until June 8. 2020

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course will be evaluated on a pass/fail basis only ("mit Erfolg teilgenommen" (+) bzw. "ohne Erfolg teilgenommen" (-)).

The submission of a high-quality 15 minute presentation on a publication in the broad area of Environmental Geosciences or Environmental Sciences is required to pass.

Examination topics

Please choose a publication that is not older that 2015 and has been published in one of the following journals: Env. Science & Technology; Science; Nature; Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The topic of the paper must clearly deal with research in the broad areas of Environmental Sciences or Environmental Geosciences. Please prepare a 15 minute presentation using PowerPoint and record your voice along with the presentation slides using the Tab 'Slide Show' -> 'Record Slide Show' .Please record 'Slide and animation timings' as well as 'Narrations'. Save the presentation as 'PowerPoint Show'. Please check that your presentation works and that your voice is properly recorded.
