Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar addresses current research questions in environmental geosciences, specifically aquatic and terrestrial systems. It comprises talks of international researchers on biogeochemistry, pollutant dynamics, hydrogeology, element cycles and the behavior of nanoparticles. All talks will be held in English. Each talk is followed by a discussion session to encourage the knowledge exchange with the invited lecturers. Due to COVID-19, this course will be held hybrid

Assessment and permitted materials

Students, in addition to attendance and active participation in the discussion, need to choose a publication that is not older than 2016 and has been published in one of the following journals: Env. Science & Technology; Science; Nature; Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The topic of the paper must clearly deal with research in the areas of Environmental Sciences or Environmental Geosciences. You need to prepare a 15 minute presentation using PowerPoint and record your voice over along with the presentation slides (pptx or ppsx files only!). Technical details will be announced at moodle. Grading will be based 30% on regular attendance and active discussion during the seminar talks and 70% on the uploaded pptx presentation with voice-over.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course will be evaluated on the Basis of 30 points for attendance and 70 points for the pptx. An attendance of at least 70% of the scheduled seminars is required for a successful evaluation.

Examination topics
