Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The Gaia mission is driving a revolution in stellar astrophysics, ISM, and Galactic structure and formation. In this Seminar, we will look into the preparations for Gaia Data Release 4, which will take place in 2026. The goal of the Seminar is to familiarize students with the mission, its data products, and main science cases, and invite them to "play" with the reduced, and easily accessible, Gaia data. There will be a main list of papers to be discussed in the Seminar, although students are welcome to propose Gaia papers on specific topics of their interest.
Assessment and permitted materials
Participation in the Seminar and engagement with the different topics discussed is critical. Every student is expected to present a paper and participate in debates (the latter depending on the number of students in the course).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The grade will be based on 1) the presentations/debates on the various topics, and 2) participation and engagement in class (50/50). Students are expected to read all the papers(s) that are going to be discussed in the Seminar.
Examination topics
Students are expected to have read the paper(s) that will be discussed each week and bring questions to the discussion.
Reading list
A reading list of papers will be provided on Moodle.
