Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The joint Master and PhD Seminar aims at gaining professional skills in elaborating, presenting and reflecting critical on a selected research topic (e.g. master thesis). Hereby, Master students can take advantage form the experience of the PhDs and PhDs practise constructive feedback.

The seminar is divided into two parts. There are 3 meetings for MSc students. An extra seminar day is currently being planned for the PhDs. Master students are gladly invited as well. However, they don't have to take part as they can only aquire 2 ECTs, while PhDs 4 ECTs

Content:
The course will identify and elaborate major themes at the research frontier of geomorphology and geoecelogy.

Methods:
Participants will present their scientific aspirations, concepts and results in 20 min presentations. The works will be discussed regarding general questions, scientific relevance and importance for geomorphology and geoecology.
Participants may also report on relevant topics to which they have been introduced at conferences, which they have attended and will discuss these in terms of their importance for geomorphology in general, for the participatimg research groups and for individual degree programmes.

All interested graduates, post-graduates, tutors and teaching assistants are invited to participate.

Regular active participation (discussion), presentation, review of a presentation

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements:
- presence (max. allowed absence = 2 units (2SWS), of which mx. one in the MSc colloquia
- presentation
- review of one presentation

assessment scale:
- presentation (50%)
- active engagement in discussion (30%)
- review (20%)
