Aims, contents and method of the course

After completing this course you will be able to read and understand simple texts in Belarusian, communicate in simple phrases, and you will have a basic knowledge of the history, culture and current state of society in Belarus. The course will be conducted in a mixed format - practical language learning, lectures on culture and your reports on topics of interest to you.

Assessment and permitted materials

The grade for the course will be based on the results of work during the class: at the end of the term, students will have to demonstrate the ability to read and understand simple texts, to discuss proficiently the most important achievements of Belarusan culture and to orientate themselves in contemporary Belarusan social life.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The grade for the course consists of the following parameters: attendance (maximum 2 absences) - 50%; presentation on the chosen topic - 30%; ability to read and understand simple texts and maintain simple communication in Belarusian - 20%.

Examination topics

1. Language knowledge corresponding to level (at least) A1;
2. Deeply prepared oral conversation on a socio-political topic related to Belarus or on the topic ‘Culture of Belarus’.

Reading list

Most academic literature will be made available to students in the form of copies and electronic documents. Specific literature sources will be discussed in the first sessions of the course.
