Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives: The following topics will be researched and presented by students:
East Slavic sociolinguistics; language policy in Russia; in Ukraine and in Belarus'; "trasyanka" and "suržyk"; language situation in Russia; in Ukraine; in Belarus' among others.
On the other hand, the practical exercise should help students to actively enter into the communication and writing process, to develop a scientific feeling for language in order to be able to independently work out and present scientific problems.
Contents: The course teaches the basics of scientific writing and presentation in the field of comparative East Slavic linguistics. The most important steps of scientific text production and communication are practised.
Method: Presentation of the agreed topics (papers).

Assessment and permitted materials

This is an examination-immanent course, the performance assessment is carried out by 5 sub-tasks (2x oral, 1x written (test), 1x participation, 1x attendance).
In oral presentations, the content is assessed as concise, factually dense, formally correct and linguistically precise.
Type of performance assessment:
1. regular attendance checks;
2. permanent performance assessment (2 x oral presentation, 1 x written test);
3. cooperation control.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The minimum requirement for a positive assessment is the completion of 2 agreed oral presentations; written test at the end of the semester; attendance is compulsory (at least 85%) and participation is compulsory. Each sub-assignment is assessed independently. In the assessment, each sub-task counts 20% : (1 x written - 20%, 2x oral - 40%, 1x attendance - 20%, 1 x participation - 20%). Punctuality: not showing up on time will be understood as negative cooperation. Use of mobile/smart phones: to be used for teaching purposes only. Non-cancellation of agreed presentations: Cancellation of agreed lectures is only possible with medical confirmation.
