Aims, contents and method of the course
The concept of "holy Russia" is known since a long time. In 988 Rus was baptized and already in 11 cent. the first Russian saints were canonized. During time there were several concepts which proved the holiness of Russia: "Kiev as the second Jerusalem", "Moscow as the second Rome", "Russia as the second Byzantium" etc. Another important and still actual idea is that Russia has its own way. The reception of this concepts is known in Russian literature of almost every cent. We will discuss "Saints" and "demons"," saint towns" and "city of Antichrist", the relationship between East and West in Russian literature.
Assessment and permitted materials
At the end students should write an essay.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
to improve the knowlege of the Russian culture and literature and ability of analysis of a literal text.
Examination topics
During the course the students will make reports and analysis of the selected passages.
