Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The overall goal of this proseminar is the repetition, deepening and application of literary theories and methods. Using the example of a text, the novel 'Mamac' by David Albahari (1996), we want to try out different analytical methods and look at the novel from different theoretical positions, such as the narratological, the structuralist, the intertextual and many others. Approaches from memory research, transculturality research, and Jewish studies will play an equally important role, as will approaches from literary gender studies and migration research. Our discussions will serve to enable course participants to subsequently apply these theoretical approaches independently in their term papers. Thus, an important focus of the proseminar will be the preparation for the independent writing of scientific papers, including questions about their structure and design, the development of questions, the formulation of theses, argumentation structure, and much more. The language of instruction is German. The (short) novel should be read by all course participants before the beginning of the term.
