Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this colloquium we deal with language policies in a south-Slavic context. At the beginning of the semester, relevant theoretical approaches and concepts will be discussed. Then we will focus on language policy issues such as the discussion on the disintegration of Serbo-Croatian, but also on language policy in the countries of former Yugoslavia with regard to multilingual constellations and minority languages. We will also deal with south-Slavic minority languages in Austria, a one-day excursion in planned on this topic for the end of the semester. During the semester, students will have to prepare assigned theoretical texts and topics, which will then be presented and discussed in class.

As the Colloquium implies continuous assessment of course work, students must attend. Students are expected reading the assigned literature, actively participating and taking part in discussions. The attendants will have to prepare assigned topics, tasks and/or reading material, the findings will be presented and discussed in class. At the end of the semester, students need to submit an essay (5 pages).
