Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Within the Introductory Seminar students will get an overview in B/C/S linguistics and linguistic fields and subareas with the corresponding important terminology as well as acquire basic skills of scientific work, such as research and usage of literature, preparing presentations and writing papers; the writing process will actively be included in the ongoing semester.
Assessment and permitted materials
As the PS implies continuous assessment of course work, students must attend and show various partial academic performances during the semester: active participation, short writing tasks, reading of assigned literature, taking part in discussions (all also possible in smaller groups) as well as one presentation on a defined topic. At the end of the semester, students must deliver a PS-paper of 12-15 pages (deadline of final version at the beginning of February 2022, a first draft will already be discussed in January).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Basic requirement for positive grading: attendance (students may miss three classes maximum). Assessment criteria: Attendance, active participation and involvement during the semester; preparation of work assignments and short writing tasks; presentation; PS-paper.
Examination topics
There won’t be a written or oral exam.
Reading list
Reading list and literature will be provided at the beginning of the semester and will be constantly updated on Moodle.
