Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

A quarter of a century after its end, the war in Yugoslavia continues to haunt those who experienced it directly or indirectly, as well as the subsequent generation. This is evident in literature, film and other forms of art from the post-Yugoslavian cultural area that still refer to it today. Photographs are also regularly used as emblems of the war experience.
This course aims to reflect on the semantic structure of different media. We will engage both theoretically and practically with intermedial forms, i.e. the interplay of different media. The focus will be on literature, film, and photography. On the one hand, we will read and discuss theoretical texts; on the other hand, we will jointly and independently analyze text-image-sound relationships in artistic negotiations of the war in former Yugoslavia. In the process, we will reflect on and practice academic forms of presentation (essay, lecture, social media).
