Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

To learn about the recent developments in Ukrainian, Polish, and Russian
To see how the history of language illustrates the political, social, and cultural changes in the 3 countries
To deepen the knowledge of the languages for those who specialize in them - or to develop a better understanding of them

The course will focus mostly on the lexical changes in Ukrainian, Polish, and Russian for example at the neologisms, female pronouns, and influence of English on the languages.
Next to that, the stylistic and orthographic developments will be looked at.

The detailed VO programme will be presented at the beginning of the semester and will be accessible via the Moodle learning platform.

Assessment and permitted materials

To assess the performance, the regular and active presence and participation as well as a presentation will be taken into account.
More than half of the total number of grade-relevant criteria must be fulfilled for positive completion.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

A basic knowledge of one of the languages is the prerequisite.
The assessment will be made based on the: work during the semester (50%) and a presentation on the topic chosen by a student (50%).

Examination topics

The course will not end with a formal exam. However, continuous work during the lessons is expected as well as an extensive presentation on a topic related to the course. The students can choose a topic that has been analyzed during the course and see investigate it on the example of the language of their specialization. A comparative analysis of a certain linguistical concepts in Polish, Russian, and/or Ukrainian can be also done during a presentation.
