Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The KO discusses the commodification of language and culture with a focus on minority languages and multilingualism, asking how they might be or are used as economic resources. The semester will begin with a discussion of relevant terms and a critical examination of relevant concepts and approaches. Building on this, we will elaborte selected case studies including several Slavic languages. During the semester, students will have to prepare assigned texts and topics as well as smaller research assignments (also in groups) which will then be presented and discussed in class or in small groups.

Assessment and permitted materials

As the Colloquium implies continuous assessment of course work, students must attend classes and prepare assigned tasks. Students are expected reading the given literature, actively participating and taking part in discussions. The attendants will have to prepare assigned topics and/or reading material as well as smaller research tasks, the findings will be presented and discussed in class or in another given format. At the end of the semester, a final discussion will bring together the results.
