Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course encourages students to think critically about issues of sexuality and queerness in (Post-)Yugoslavia. On the basis of our readings, we will examine a wide range of topics surrounding the notion of “queerness” focusing on different conceptualizations, approaches, and methodological issues in studying sexuality and sexual difference. We will look into different fields of research from and on (Post-)Yugoslavia in order to understand sexuality and queerness as categories of analysis and as lived experiences. At the same time, we will also consider intersectional issues with categories such as gender, class, and race. Consequently, the aim of this course is to help students develop their own critical understanding of research and writing about queerness and sexuality in their respective discipline and/or area.
