Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
We know about Russia since 862. The first Russian leader Rurik was not Russian, he was a Varangian Prince and he is considered the founder of the Old Russian state of Kievan Rus. He should have prevailed 862-879 over Novgorod and the land between the rivers Neva and Oka. Relations between Russian and Varangians were very important for Rus. Later Rus also had relations with Konstantinople. In 988 Russia was baptized and since 11 century we have Russian manuscripts. The first Russian literature was only translations but since 11 century we have also Russian original literature. Religion was for the newly baptized country very important and since the 11th century Rus had already its own saints. When we talk about Old Rus, we need to mention Novgorod Rus, Kievan Rus and Muscovy. There were also other important cities with various manuscripts, traditions, architecture and literature. The relationships between various Russian cities is also an important point. In different times there were different concepts in the culture, philosophy and literature such as "Kiev is the 2 Jerusalem", "Moscow is the third Rome", "Russia is the 2 Byzantium" etc. Even more important is the idea that is still actual, that Russia has its own way. During the course all these points will be discussed.
