Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture focuses on the linguistic diversity and dynamics of languages in Austria from the perspecitve of the language system, sociolinguistics, contact linguistics as well as language attitudes. Not only the current situation is considered, but also the development of this multilingualism over the centuries. The central concept of multilingualism in all its diversity is also explained in more detail from a theoretical and scientific point of view. The lecture features examples from current research such as the FWF Special Research Programme (SFB) "German in Austria. Variation – Contact – Perception" at the University of Vienna.
Lectures introduce students to the main areas of the field of study. It is especially their task to deal with the most important facts and doctrines in the field and to discuss the current state of scientific research. They consist of lectures by the lecturers as well as other forms of presentation.
