Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture focuses on the linguistic diversity and dynamics of languages in Austria from the perspectives of the language system, sociolinguistics, contact linguistics and language attitudes. Not only the current situation will be considered, but also the development of this multilingualism over the centuries. The central concept of multilingualism in all its diversity will also be explained from a theoretical and scientific point of view. The lecture will include examples from current research, such as the FWF Special Research Programme "German in Austria. Variation – Contact – Perception" at the University of Vienna.
Lectures introduce students to the main areas of study. Their primary purpose is to deal with the most important facts and theories in the field and to discuss the current state of scientific research. They consist of lectures by the lecturers and other forms of presentation.
