Aims, contents and method of the course
The aim of the course is to teach students the theoretical aspects and practical skills of working with corpora - using existing corpora and creating a new corpus in a corpus management tool. The content of the course includes topics such as: overview of corpus-based studies and approaches in the humanities, familiarisation with corpus management tools and experiments with DIY corpus, theoretical and practical, multilingual corpora and text alignment, and statistical claims on corpus data. The method of the course includes lectures by the teacher, group discussions and reading, and practical seminars.
Assessment and permitted materials
The assessment includes a written test and a final project: a self-made corpus followed by a description of its basic features. In the written test, the lecture material may be used; in preparing the final project, students are encouraged to use all possible sources and materials
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
For a positive result, at least more than half of the questions in the final test must be answered exhaustively and the final project should be submitted. The final grade is calculated from the ratio of the number of questions answered on the final test and the evaluation of the final project.

The topics of the final test and the requirements for the final project are based on the course materials, which are made available on Moodle.
