Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to teach students the theoretical aspects and practical skills of creatinng a corpus for research. The content of the course will cover the modern approaches to representativity of the corpus, familiarisation with corpus management tools and experiments with DIY corpus in Sketengine, corpus query language and statistical claims on corpus data. The method of the course includes lectures by the teacher, group discussions and reading, and practical seminars.

Assessment and permitted materials

The assessment will be based on student's activity during the course and the final project: a self-made corpus followed by a description of its basic features.
