Subject of the course is "Soviet prison-camp literature"
"Soviet prison-camp literature" describes one of the most catastrophic
phenomena of the 20th century. It is the source for a
descriptive-philosophical potential, which found its expression in the
published volumes about the GULAGs.
In the context of this course specific problems and subjects will be dealt
with, taking into account the published classics on "Camp" fiction
(Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Varlam Shalamov and others), but also referring
to the specifics of "Camp language". A special reference will be made not
only to the analysis of the known and published works, but specifically on
the written documents of women (Eugenia Ginzburg, Eufrosinia Kersnovskaya,
Natalya Sats, Tatiana Okunevskaya and others). At the same time it will
touch upon the subject "GULAG in poetry" (Anna Akhmatova, Nina Gagen-Torn,
Osip Mandelstam, Aleksandr Tvardovsky, Jury Dombrovsky and others).
