Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the course, the complexity of learning processes and the design of teaching will be presented and discussed using the latest research findings and examples from our own ongoing research projects. The resulting consequences for teaching practice and performance assessment are explained.

Finally, considerations are made as to how the acquisition of high teaching competence could be promoted against this background.

The following questions are discussed, among others:
- What understanding of learning can be derived from current findings in learning research?
- What are the current findings of learning research with which teachers should be familiar?
- How does learning succeed in heterogeneous classes?
- How should lessons be structured against the background of the findings presented?
- How should the assessment of learning outcomes be structured?
- Which questions on school development arise?
- What conclusions can be drawn from the considerations for learning the teaching profession?

Assessment and permitted materials

Exam in multiple-choice format:
30 multiple-choice and single-choice questions
There are 100 points to reach.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum Requirements and Assessment

The students are able to link their teaching experiences with current findings of teaching and learning research and to discuss and evaluate these critically. They can relate individual theories of learning to the resulting conceptualization of learning and derive consequences for the design of teaching. They can distinguish between conducive and less conducive ways of dealing with diversity and assess when diversity plays a role in learning success or failure and when other influencing factors need to be taken into account. They are able to distinguish summative and formative aspects of performance assessment and to weigh the effects and strategies of performance feedback and feedback against institutional commitment and pedagogical responsibility on a case-by-case basis.

They can recognize consequences for school development from the design possibilities of lessons and draw conclusions for the tasks of the teaching profession.
