    Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The methodological approach of the course is based on the concept of service learning. Service learning is a course-based educational experience in which students a) participate in an organised service activity that addresses specific social needs and b) reflect on the service activity in such a way that they gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter of the course and expand their personal and social skills in relation to social action. The content of the course focuses on the pedagogical handling of migration-related diversity.
The course is organised in cooperation with UniClub (www.uniclub.at). UniClub is an educational support program for young people between the ages of 13 and 20 with refugee and migration experience on their way to high school graduation. The service activity of the course consists of serving as a study buddy in Uni Club for a total of 25 hours (1 ECTS), offering tutorials to high school students, who benefit from the UniClub program. Through this Service Learning course, pre-service teacher candidates contribute to the societal aim of educational equality, and at the same time, gain insights into a number of questions relating to the pedagogical handling of migration-related diversity.
