Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this seminar, the focus lies on the main features that characterize the different progressive educational ideas. Both the historical development as well as the implementation in today’s society and time will be presented. We will also discuss how progressive education ideas can be seen in connection to the latest curricula in Austrian schools which can bring out both differences and similarities of the concepts.

Assessment and permitted materials

The mode of examination will be thoroughly explained in the first lecture.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The students shall be able to name well-known, important and influential progressive education concepts and to differ them from each other.
The students shall be able to to analyze progressive education concepts when comparing them with modern teaching and modern curricula. They shall be able to describe possible similarities and differences.
The students shall become familiar with some historical developments in progressive education.

Examination topics

Both oral and written tasks are part of the seminar and will be worked on individually or in groups. The submission of a seminar paper is possible. Active participation in the seminar is a prerequisite.

A reader will be provided on Moodle - Attention: There will be at least one text in English!
For working on your tasks, there will be more information on further literature in the seminar.
