Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar is part of a one-semester course module and can only be completed in combination with the corresponding practicum. It provides in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills on the topics of disability, neurodivergence, mental health, and chronic illnesses.

Seminar Focus Areas:
A key focus is on raising awareness and professionalizing interactions with:
✔ Students with sensory impairments
✔ AD(H)D and autism, as well as related challenges
✔ Mental health issues in school and university contexts

In addition to disability and neurodivergence, the seminar also addresses mental health crises, crisis intervention, and individualized support strategies, with a particular focus on autism and AD(H)D. Students will gain hands-on experience, particularly through the ISU Study Buddy Program and Learning Café, where they will support students with specific needs.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will develop:
* Inclusive teaching and counseling skills for the targeted support of students
* Knowledge of relevant support services and resources
* The ability to reflect on and critically assess individual support measures
* Awareness of their own support skills, strengths, and limitations

The seminar combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience in inclusive pedagogy at universities and in adult education. The course instructor brings an interdisciplinary background, integrating theory and practice in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment.
