Aims, contents and method of the course

The aims of the course are
-- to introduce the topic of "Schulentwicklung" (school development) in the Austrian context
-- to give students basic understanding of and insight into empirical research, basic approaches and research methods,
-- to give students insights into the Austrian school-reality,
-- to develop students' ability to define and work with research questions,
-- to develop students' ability to construct an adequate research design and apply it in practice,
-- to develop students' ability to document and present research results transparently.
-- to carry out an empirical study in cooperation with a school

Course methods include:
-- theoretical input
-- project work
-- individual and group work
-- group discussions
-- learning-by-doing

Assessment and permitted materials

Assignments
-- participation in an empirical study (collaborative work / team work)
-- end-term research report (collaborative written assignment)
-- final written reflection (individual written assignment
-- presentation (collaborative work)
-- participation in in-class and online discussions / activities

Assessment will be based on students' ability to
-- understand and work towards the aims of the course,
-- understand and follow guidelines,
-- implement theory into practice,
-- think critically,
-- construct and express clear arguments,
-- work independently and in groups,
-- organize your time and keep deadlines.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements
-- students must carry out (parts of) an empirical study which involves data collection at a school, i.e. "Kooperationsschule" (team work)
— students must compose am end-term research report (collaborative work)
-- students must be present at least 75% of the sessions

Assessment
-- participation in the empirical study and end-term research report (60%)
-- presentation (20%)
-- presence, participation in in-class and online discussions and activities, final written reflection (20%)
