These are just some of the questions faced by students starting their teacher education program at the University of Vienna in the winter semester 2025/26. Experienced master’s students can be an invaluable source of support during this time. That’s why we offer this course as part of the master’s program, where advanced students can share their experiences and insights with first-year students during the “Welcome Days".
As a peer mentor, you will accompany new students as they begin their studies and, at the same time, develop your own personal and interpersonal skills.
The course includes a half-day training workshop that prepares you for your mentoring role. The aim is to strengthen key social and personal competencies that are not only valuable for mentoring but also essential for your future work as a teacher. Workshop topics include designing and facilitating mentoring processes, understanding and reflecting on group dynamics, practicing communication and feedback strategies,
guiding group activities, and supporting individual learning processes.
Your experience as a peer mentor can spark valuable insights and personal growth—both of which can enrich your future teaching practice in meaningful ways.
