Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar has two main objectives:

1) Students will learn about recent achievements and modern trends in the fields of magnetism and spintronics. Every participant will give one presentation during the semester. The topic can be related to the student's actual Bachelor/Master/PhD studies or selected from the suggested topics. The scope of the presentations can also go outside the fields of magnetism and spintronics. The students will be provided with the starting literature lists and will obtain all the required support to master materials.

Besides, invited external guests will be giving talks on selected seminars.

2) Students will improve their skills in scientific presentations. During the first seminar, soft-skill training on preparing slides and their presentation will be given. Afterwards, the student's skills will be improved through their own presentations. In addition, a separate "feedback" meeting with the teacher might be arranged before the seminar. Each talk will be analysed by all the participants taking into account both, the scientific and the didactic aspects. Active participation in the seminar is required (at least one scientific question or comment per talk).

Assessment and permitted materials

The final mark will be defined by the quality of the given scientific presentation and the participants' activity (the number of questions and comments during the semester).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- Presence in >70% of all meetings.
- Presentation of one scientific talk (approximately 30 min long) during the semester.
- Active participation in the scientific discussions and evaluation of other students (at least one question/comment during every seminar).

Examination topics

Selected research papers and book chapters.
