Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The objective of this course is to present and understand the method through which scientific literature is documented, archived and accessed and to provide both an overview and the tools through which scientific literature can be found.
We will look at scientific journals and how science is being written; how it is published, submitted, reviewed and corrected. We will look at a various amounts of tools, queries and databases accessible to academic and/or common users to find relevant scientific information.
We will also study citation management, databases, data repositories, formatting and how it is important for the scientific community.
We will also discuss research proposal, research grants, patent and intellectual property.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment will take place in the form of take-home problems (Übungs aspect of the course) and a short, final oral presentation (Vorlesung aspect).
