800317 VO Zahlen und Vernunft (2005S)

This is a 2-hour lecture course, taught once before, dealing with the role of numbers in the natural siences. Contents include the origin of quantitative data in the geometry of instruments, foundations of common statistical descriptive techniques (the normal distirbution, correlation and regression, permutation tests of hypothesis, and morphometrics), and philosophy and computationalaspects of quantitative scientific theories. Student resposibilities include some assigned readings and two short written assignments.
